Maybe I'm hopeless a Romantic spirit still in search of that truth which the original Boston Transcendentalism suspected beneath the text of American nature as Manifest Destiny. This nature only reveals itself in the action of the unconditioned Self. There have been many failures in my life, but my recent experience with facebook already belongs to one of his biggest fiascos, namely, a monumental cosmic disaster. There is on the virtual life, in that beautiful plenty of euphemisms language of sociologists, a new “post-social” dimension, which only seems to stimulate the darkest psychoses and manufacturing defects of our species. If nature was a corrective for the social theater at the time of Emerson, now the hegemony of culture as second nature only turns the social roles more grotesque and dangerous in their masquerade in this new dimension. It was with these mixed claustrophobic feelings that I finally closed my profile with a last glance at Mark Zuckerberg on the cover of “Mad” magazine: what a jerk and wanker, what a loss of time! I wanted only to breathe fresh air. But I have not lost my sense of humor and my faith in what is simple, beautiful and comes from the heart, my thrust for truth, and my love for real and common people, real feelings in real life, vibrating fiercely out there as Drew Baylor´s journey to the heart of America and to sweet Claire, as he eventually accepts his "epic failure" believing in patience and that regenerating magic power of nature. For these and many other reasons I love “Elisabethtown” today more than ever, although my heart is still hurt and tired. God bless Emerson and the eternal spirit of America!
